John Hefferon graduated from Northwestern University 's School of Medicine with his medical degree in 1972. His certifications are a diplomat from the Board of Medical Examiner's in 1974 and a certification from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in 1980. Among Dr. Hefferon's long list of academic positions and hospital appointments, he holds some of the medical profession's most prestigious positions. Dr. Hefferon is currently an impartial examiner for the NFL, the NBA orthopedic consultant and is president of both the Medical Association of Chicago and The Chicago Orthopedic Foundation.

Dr. Hefferon is also highly recognized for his association as team physician for the 1996 Olympic basketball team, the six time world champion Chicago Bulls and with such athletes including some of the sporting world's greatest like Michael Jordan.
